YWCA Volunteer Advocate Team
At the YWCA, we understand the vital role volunteer advocates play. Without them, the YWCA would not be able to serve survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault and/or child abuse. We value and rely on our volunteers as much as our staff. Thank you for your interest and commitment to survivors of relationship violence.
- Pick up an application packet at the YWCA, 1130 W. Broadway.
- Complete the application packet by stated due date, and return to the Volunteer Coordinator at the YWCA.
- Volunteer Coordinator will review applications and call potential volunteers for an interview.
- Complete the interview. Part of the interview process includes looking at the interest of the potential volunteer and assessing the proper fit at the YWCA.
- Volunteer advocates are screened and must pass a background check.
- Once applicants have passed the screening and interviewing process, they will be invited to attend our 40-hour Basic Advocacy Training.
- Complete any additional training if needed (sexual assault advocacy, group facilitator training, children’s program).
- Shadow current advocates until new advocates have completed the shadowing criteria and it is determined advocate is ready to take independent shifts.
- Attend periodic advocate meetings and continuing education trainings.
Secret Seconds Store Volunteer Team
YWCA Secret Seconds thrift stores generate income for all YWCA services. Volunteers contribute to the functioning of Secret Seconds in providing quality customer service and maintaining relationships with the community. By contributing your time to volunteering at Secret Seconds, you are assisting in the provision of funds needed to operate our emergency shelter, children's program, sexual assault services and crisis line, to name just a few.
- Pick up an application at the YWCA, 1130 W. Broadway.
- Return completed application, including references and their contact information, to the Volunteer Coordinator at the YWCA.
- Once the Volunteer Coordinator has cleared references, the stores will be notified of applicant’s interest.
- Applicant will be called and a time scheduled to meet with the store manager to schedule availability.
