Response Advocate

A Response Advocate is responsible for responding to emergency advocacy needs. This Advocate must be trained in both sexual assault (First STEP) advocacy and personal contacts with survivors who may need to go to the shelter. A Response Advocate will be responsible for weekday on-call shifts (4 pm-10 pm), overnight on-call shifts (10 pm- 8 am) and 12-hour (8 pm-8 am or 8 am- 8 pm) weekend on-call shifts.

Children’s Advocate

A Children’s Advocate helps with implementing activities for the shelter children, or children of those attending support groups, during evening and weekend hours as part of the YWCA Pathways Program.

Pathways Shelter Advocate

A Pathways Shelter Advocate helps the Shelter Coordinator implement activities for the women at the shelter. The person in this position spends time with the women at the Shelter during the day, evening and weekend hours as part of the YWCA Pathways Program, which works toward breaking the cycle of violence.

Crisis Line

A Crisis Line Advocate is responsible for being on call to answer the crisis line from approximately 10 pm to 8 am during the week and/or weekends (minimum of 1 shift/wk). The crisis line advocate is responsible for actively listening to the caller, providing emergency referrals and filling out call sheets to be turned into YWCA staff.

Group Facilitator

A Group Facilitator is responsible for offering support, advocacy, information, and opportunities to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. A group facilitator serves this role in providing either education based group work or support group and discussion oriented times with women. Group facilitators are trained in active listening, effective communication and boundaries.

Outreach and Education

An Outreach Advocate is responsible for presenting information on a variety of topics, including intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and healthy relationships to the community, including schools, faith communities, businesses and social service agencies (may also include Life Skills classes). The advocate is responsible for representing the YWCA with integrity and an attitude of empowerment. The goal of outreach and education is the prevention of intimate partner violence, sexual assault and child abuse.

Secret Seconds Store Worker

A Secret Seconds Store Worker assists with receiving and sorting merchandise, sales, pricing, display and organization of the Secret Seconds Store. Proceeds from the Secret Seconds Store help support the programs of the YWCA Missoula.

Yearly Events

This may include working at the Taste of Missoula, participating in Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities, or YWCA Week Without Violence among other things.
