programs:ada’s place transitional housing

The TH application/program participant selection process is as follows:
  1. Transitional Housing Program Eligibility Survey/Applications are available at the YWCA, 1130 W. Broadway. Applications should be fully completed and turned into the TH Coordinator. After reviewing and determining an applicant’s eligibility, the TH staff will call to schedule an orientation. Anyone not able to attend the orientation must contact the TH Coordinator at (406) 543-6691 to make other arrangements or to reschedule the appointment.
  2. Only complete applications (a mailing address and/or phone number is required for notification purposes) are reviewed for initial program eligibility for the following criteria: homelessness, single, female, with 1-3 children. If applicants do not meet this requirement the TH Coordinator will call them (or send a letter if no phone number is available) within one (1) week of receipt of an application informing them that they do not qualify for the program.
  3. Before anyone is placed on the interview waiting list, they must sign up with the Missoula Housing Authority and attend one life skills class offered by the YWCA. PLACEMENT ON THE INTERVIEW WAITING LIST DOES NOT GUARANTEE THE APPLICANT ADMITTANCE TO THE PROGRAM. The length of time on the interview waiting list can range from 1-10 months. **Preference is given to applicants currently residing at the YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter; these applications are moved to the top of the interview waiting list in the order they are received.
  4. When there is an opening in the program, the first applicant on the interview waiting list will be called for an interview with YWCA/TH staff (if the TH Coordinator is unable to contact applicants within 7-days their application will be closed and taken off of the waiting list). During the interview process, applicants are screened for how well the program will be able to meet their needs and how they will be able to meet the program requirements (see program guidelines).
  5. If an applicant successfully completes the interview process, then at least three (3) non-personal reference checks must be completed before a final decision is made.
  6. After successful completion of the interview and reference check process, each applicant will be assessed on the basis of need and resources available to them and will either:
    1. be placed on a separate waiting list for future openings and will not need to be re- interviewed, OR:
    2. the applicant will be offered the current opening and will usually be able to move into a TH unit within 2 weeks after the interview. All applicants must complete the move-in paperwork and make a minimum $100.00 payment towards the security deposit prior to moving into a unit ($300.00 total payment required within 3-months of move-in).

If an applicant is NOT selected after the interview process then the applicant’ s file will be closed and her application will be taken off of the waiting list.

**If an applicant is not selected after the interview process, they will receive either verbal notification or written notification within seven (7) days of the interview.
