In 1911 the YWCA Missoula was organized following the motto, “Face life squarely and find and give the best.” Today, we are proud to continue the legacy of our pioneering foremothers, by advocating for the rights of women and children in this community and hope you will join us by becoming a member — it’s an easy way to do a good thing.
The YWCA is a membership driven organization with programs supporting women and children. Locally, the YWCA Missoula’s programs include:
- The Pathways program, which provides services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
- The Planet Kids program, an intervention and prevention program that gives children living in abusive situations a safe and stable environment
- Ada’s Place Transitional Housing program, which provides housing and support services to homeless women and children while they work towards self-sufficiency
- The Economic Empowerment program, a new program offering job training for low-income women.
- The Racial Justice program, a new program enacting social change through the elimination of racism
On a much larger scale, membership in the YWCA is the power to create change. It is being a part of and supporting the world’s largest and oldest women’s movement. We are working in over 90 nations for the empowerment of women and girls and for peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people. We are a service organization consulted by Congress and the United Nations. We are part of a continuous effort to achieve a society free of discrimination based on race, gender, age, religion, culture, and sexual orientation. You can help work for human rights by becoming a member — it’s an easy way to do a good thing.
With state and federal resources ever shrinking, we rely on revenue generated from membership dues more and more. I hope that you will become a member of the YWCA Missoula. Your membership dues will help support the critical services we provide in this community and the efforts on a national and international level to improve and empower the lives of others — it’s an easy way to do a good thing.
