The YWCA is a member of Legacy Montana-a community-based program to help people learn about charitable giving through a will or from an estate. When you leave a legacy, you make sure that help continues to be there for those who need it.

YWCA Missoula plays an important role in the Missoula community and in surrounding counties providing emergency shelter to survivors of domestic violence, housing for homeless women and children, and other crucial services to individuals in our community. The truth is that the YWCA needs financial assistance from people like you in order to continue providing services to the people who need them. More than 70% of Americans contribute to the nonprofit groups of their choice throughout their lifetimes. Only 6% continue this support through a gift in their will or estate plan. By making these “planned gifts,” you can continue to help the YWCA make an important difference in this community.

Who can help me arrange for a gift? If you have a professional you’re working with like a financial planner, lawyer, accountant or insurance agent, please talk with them about leaving a gift. A professional can tell you about the tax benefits of planned gifts. You can also call the YWCA for help.

How do I leave a gift in memory of a person or for a specified purpose? A memorial gift is a wonderful way to recognize someone who has made a difference in you life. You may also want to give to a specific program like the Children's or Transitional Housing Program. This kind of memorial gift can be arranged in your will, the same way that you would leave a personal gift from your estate. You just need to make it clear that the gift is given in memory of a particular person or for a specific program.

Do I tell the YWCA I’ve left the gift? This is up to you. The YWCA would like to know in advance so they can recognize your generosity. We can also tell you about specific opportunities for giving. Whether you let us know of your plans or not, is your decision to make.

How do I take the first step? Think about to whom and why you'd like to leave a gift. Maybe the YWCA has helped you or someone you know. Maybe you’re an active volunteer pr believe in the mission. You might want to leave a gift in memory of a loved one or for a specific use.

If you need more help or you need to know more about us, call YWCA Missoula (543-6691) and arrange a meeting with Cindy Weese, Executive Director. We can help you better understand what we do and what opportunities are available for giving.

Contact your financial advisor for help. Your advisor can make sure you are getting the maximum tax and legal advantages allowed for your gift. If you do not have a professional advisor, please call the YWCA or go to www.leavealegacymt.org.
